| A Black History Month Event with a Difference | |
| On February 28, 2004 Jamii Africa hosted the first
of a unique type of
Black History Month event. Education, in the broad sense, is a critical
component in our path to mutual understanding, pride in our identity,
and the fruits thereof. Black History Month provides a many
opportunities to educate ourselves, and reorient our focus and energies
towards the ultimate prize.
Traditionally, Black History Month has been a time to recognize and celebrate the achievement of peoples of African descent in the Americas and Caribbean. Jamii Africa brings in a new element by broadening the field to include the contribution of Africans from the motherland. The primary objective of this format is to re-emphasize our common heritage and destiny as African peoples. We will continue to include our children in these educational events to ensure the torch is carried across the generations. |
